What have you learned from your audience feedback?

From audience feedback i have been able to gather information, on Facebook an network site whereby friends of friends are able to see that A2 trailer. Whereby, people are able to comment on the post about their thoughts and feelings about it.
I will create a couple of questions where i will ask people about certain micro aspects and aspects from the trailer in which they liked.

Q1) What did you think of the entrance to the main actor ?
Q2) Was the genre action, thriller, mystery clear enough ?
Q3) What was your favourite part in the trailer ?
Q4) Where do you think we could improve our trailer ?
Q5) Did the lighting aspects feel like an modern film noir ?

I interviewed the main actor Adam Riddleston and he gave me some positive and negative feedback about the trailer. I found that mainly certain areas of the genre may have been unclear, but from his own words the main actor was a strong entrance to the audience. Asking these questions in an interview lead to other areas of the trailer to be analyzed within my next evaluation posts. The video will allow me to feedback to my group and suggest certain areas whereby we could improve and combine scenes together to create a better genre definition.

Head over to charlie blackmore's a2 media blog for the video of the Interview

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Our Trailer resembles many of the media convergence and ancillary texts. Examples, such as the:  Entrance Piracy Certificate, Film Company Logo (Paramount), Titles within the trailer promoting companies and brands. The Main Title of the Trailer at the end of the trailer, which then is followed by the ending subtitles, such as the release date and various actors names and the main people of editing, directing and Director of Photographer.

Spelling, grammar and presentation check – understanding of the combination of main product and ancillary texts Presenting outcomes in suitable digital form eg. DVD extras, blogs, podcasts, commentary etc. The choice of form in which to present the evaluation Bibliography

If you take our final production and our ancillary texts like our poster you can see the same dynamic in both and they both give across the same feel about them, for example the genre of our film with the use of lighting and the way the actors portray themselves with the use of their facial expressions and body language when in the poster and final film.

This is then interpreted in to what we want the audience to think which means that our final production and our poster link well and are very effective when put together. This also stands for our magazine poster as the features that have been used in it, i.e. the picture we chose helps the audience make the link between the final production and the magazine cover.

As I stated, the picture is a big part of making the link of our film in relation to the genre of it as the expression and body language of the actor portrays and action mood which makes the audience realise that it is the genre of the film.

Also in terms of marketing the final film the posters and magazine covers have a big role as they act as the voice of the creators, in this case us, as it gets the message of the film out there and tells people what its about and other information about the film that normally would not be available unless an interview had been set up.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

Certain aspects that i used to create and influence my trailer were such things as:  Poster/magazine Cover, Film production logos.

Film title
bbfc age limit
Social media
Character intro
Music and voice overs (Dialogue)
Name captions
Time length
Release date

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

We used a variety of new media technologies during our construction and research, planning and evaluation such as an Ipad ,IMac ,Sony SLR, Nikon D5200 and an Iphone 5s. (as seen below)

Using different media technologies enabled us to do a variety of things that we would not be able to do without these new media platforms such as blog on the go and voice recording. We also used cameras to record interviews with our cast members whilst we were in the recruitment stage.

When looking at the trailer which we produced and edited using final cut express I can see that we used many features of the service such as slow motion and lighting effects we also used facebook to distribute our film.

Blogger: This program allowed me to place all of work and express my work. This program was like a diary that allowed me to express what I wanted to achieve in my final edit. It also allowed me to import images, moodboards, music and clips of example work which helped me to find camera angles and use them in my edit and find out how they would effect my work.

Prezi: This program showed me to present information in a different creative way about my film, also examples of ideas that I may of had such as, camera angles, music, images and artists.

Garageband: This program allowed me to analyze music and rearrange parts that made a slow entrance and a louder middle part to the film which made my edit flow with the clips that I put in.

Powtoon: Using Powtoon is a different way of presenting a post. The program was creative in displaying information which we could put video's and images in and annotate with text. We could also use Powtoon to create videos of our own and myself and my team took full advantage of it.

Apple macs: We used apple mac computers as they were the best way of editing with clips together. Also they allowed us to blend music and titles together. Also we were allowed access to other programs such as garageband and final cut, which an ordinary computer wouldn't have.

Iphone 5s: We used these smartphones whilst we were on the go because they have internet and communicative capabilities making them perfect for research on the go, there is also a notebook application which is very useful for keeping hold of text such as the script and written treatment so that we can refer to them whilst on set instead of carrying around a notepad.

Photoshop was used to create all of our media conventions such as; Teaser Poster, Final Magazine Cover. In which allowed us to distribute information about the film towards the public. This established the audience that we we're aspiring towards.

Final Cut, was our main media technology software we used this to edit and view the trailer creation. The use of this software was used in our premnilmary and final trailer. The use of final cut allowed us to cut and add filter and effects that could add more definition into the trailer. These would be things such as, cross dissolve where the end of a clip would fade to black this resembled an new location or person. This was useful in effect with using the volume changer, where we double clicked an clip and could change the sound levels, this was used on the voice of the narrator and certain fighting scenes.

Final Poster

Our poster links well to conventional film posters that advertise for trailers and films. We have used bold font to display the trailers title clearly in the middle foreground that enhances the facial foreplay of the actors above, in which were used within our film. The main actor is placed within the middle of the poster,to produce to the audience that he is the main guy.
The way in which the font has been edited in the bottom, is using Photoshop and resizing it to fit. The images were taken on a DSLR then copied and edited to get rid of the white background and then faded and blended together to overview the background of the cityscape of London.
We eventually, created a film poster that used all of my ideas of using a iconic London scene and a film strip to display either the name of the trailer or the trailers name. Lastly, the bottom that has all of the tittles and sub-headings of cast members within our production.

Publishing the Trailer to Social Media

I have published my trailer on a social network site as it allows me to see what the audience think of my production. Which can lead to thoughts and views on certain aspects of the trailer. Also to see that people could view the trailer and like or comment on it. This resembles the media conventions of 'We Media' and 'Democracy.' Whereby i can then analyses what i received back from the audience the public.

I will leave it up on facebook for a couple of days to allow a sneak preview of the trailer.

Permission to Film

In Certain locations we had to ask permission to film due to the safety of that location. This happened in the Garden Centre in Keston and the National Railway at Orpington Station. This was useful as it allowed us to understand the film conventions of what a real production company would have to do to get permission to film in locations of their production and made us feel as though we were a legitimate film company going through the trials and tribulations of the film making world.

Ideal actors for James Ford

                                        Jamie Bell

Jamie Bell would be an ideal actor to use as the main role. he has got the right image that we are looking for and would fit the role of 'James Ford' well. He mainly stood out in the film "Jumper" where he played "Griffin, a street wise character that was cocky yet when it came down to business he was fast to react to keep his life.

                                Humphrey Bogart

Humphrey Bogart is a classic film noir actor who features in the Big Sleep among other productions, he stood out well in the Big Sleep whilst playing a private investigator it is slightly similar to the role of James Ford however we would maybe have to work on the action side of his performance.

                            Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig is a film actor most well known for his role as 007 in the James Bond franchise that is why he would be so ideal for the role of James Ford in our production he is also used to fight scenes and all kinds of action making him amazing for the role

Casting

Our group has reached he stage where we are ready to cast for the different roles in our film. To do this we have looked at potential people that could play the roles that we are looking for and then we called them in for an interview.

Part 1
In the interviews we asked the actors some questions about themselves to get an understanding as to what they think of our film and to get a general background of the actor.

Part 2
After the questions, the next stage of the interview was a simple script reading task. This involved the actors getting a section of the script and having to read some of it whilst the interviewer (Alex Rosling) prompted them. This was to see the way they reacted to the script and how they could play off what the other character was saying.

These are some of the actors that we looked at and how they did in the interview:

Adam Riddleston

Callum West

Charlie Blackmore

We ended up using two of the actors we cast and those people were Adam Riddleston(middle) and Charlie Blackmore (right) we were lucky to find our other actor Alex Rosling who turned out to be a fantastic choice and did well in his role.

Inspiration: Blade Runner

Blade Runner is in the Film Noir/Modern genre as it features aspects from the past with factors of the then present. The fact that it is film noir adds to the aspect of there being a private investigator which is a favourite storyline for many film noirs including The Big Sleep. It uses shadows and lighting to create amazing effects it also uses blinds in relation to lighting to cast shadow that adds depth to the shot. It also uses the smoke to create the effect of shadows with the light. We are not going to use such an effect however this film is a very good example of the amalgamation of two genres which is what we are aiming to do with our production.

Inspiration: The Tourist

The aspects of this film that have inspired me is the idea of a tourist who is given an opportunity to have an adventure however in this particular film he is unknowingly placed inside a maze of deceit and lies and is targeted for being thought to be someone he is not. We wish to create a mysterious air around the person who approaches him however they are going to straight up ask him wether he wants to take on The Job and then after he has nearly completed it that is then we will add in the aspect of people trying to kill him as they have done in this film with the police chasing johnny depp's character.

Plot Synopsis

Our films main plot is that the main character has a military background but due to an accident on one of his tasks he lost his memory and cannot remember who he is and because he was on a secret task the government has lost track of him and thinks he is dead.

When the gang finds out about his background and they use him to there advantage to deliver a file that holds important information about all of the secret government agents that, in the wrong hands, can bring down the government. They persuade him to do this job in exchange for the information about his past.

As he transports the file he is being followed and then chased by men in suits, who turn out to be the government. Because he cannot remember he thinks that they are the bad guys trying to kill him and steal the file and that he is working for the good guys.

He then recognizes the symbol that the gang uses to identify themselves and has a flash back of his accident. this is where he finds out that the people he is working for are the same people he was trying to bring down when he was working for the government and that the file he now has is the same file that he was trying in intercept. Once he realizes this, he then try to take down the gang who he is working for now whilst trying to avoid getting killed by the government who still think that he is one of the bad guys.

His big task now is to prove to the government that he is working for them again whilst trying to keep the allusion that he is still working for the bad guys in order to take them down from the inside.

This is a basic plot that outlines the whole underlining story for the film that we are making our trailer about. This is so that we know the outline of our story so that when we come to making the trailer we know the different aspects that we need to include and the type of story that we need to get across in our trailer.

This is a rough outline of our storyboard, we will change it around to add in some more specific details about our film using the plot synopsis and written treatment.

The Rules of Film Noir

This is a documentary regarding The Film Noir Genre and the rules that all the films encompassed in this genre obey. Also it explains the main aspects of Film Noir and we are going to use those aspects to make our Film as good as possible.

Fight Coreography

The Inspiration for our fight scenes was Jason Statham in Transporter 3 in this scene he uses a variety of moves and objects in order to defeat a group of people chasing him so that he can get his car in and get out of the garage. We decided that we would have individual fight scenes and also we slowed down our fight scene in order to show the audience more action and add extra effects which are needed in order to create a more exciting and multi dimensional fight scene. Another inspiration for our fight scenes was the bourne franchise because he is a lone protagonist who is fighting against a group of government agents and he does it stealthily and usually matches up 1-1 1-2 against his opposers.

Location Continued

 Locations continued (London)

I decided that London would be a brilliant place to film and that some establishing shots of London and the use of London in our poster in order to show that we will be using this location in our production and also because London is a fantastic place to shoot a film noir production because of the back alleys and also the fact that London at night is fantastic for our purposes however we will also be using London at day time and other places such as Orpington and Bromley to Film.

Final Props

This is a spider diagram of the props that are going to be used within our production. We will use all of the key props such as the File, Phone and Money. Then use others such as the Gun, Knife and Watch to add depth to characters such as the boss in the trailer. Using lighting and shadows we will use the props to identify certain actors such as the boss having Whiskey, Watch and Phone that will establish the person who they are used by.

I just made a new Voki. See it here:

What would you do if you had nothing, would you take risks, would you take an opportunity would you stop being the Forgotten Man.

DON'T FORGET TO SELECT THE VOKI LINK!

The Big Sleep OFFICIAL trailer

This is a classic Film Noir trailer and the film itself has a brilliant feel to it it also encompasses all of the film noir aspects that are well known such as the use of shadows and cigarette smoke to create a certain lighting effect. We are going to try to use as many of these aspects as possible in order to make our film feel like a Film Noir and not just a modern day production in black and white.

Titles in Trailer

These are the titles we chose to use for our Trailer we assessed other trailers and realized that bold text was typical of the action genre however it was also typical of the Film Noir genre as i knew from my research of the Big Sleep and Tron therefore our Titles retain Film noir aspects as well as Action

The Basics of Lighting for Film Noir

This video explains the lighting which we can use to create that classic film noir feeling for people whilst they are watching our trailer, this was a very useful tool to improve my understanding of the Film Noir genre and how lighting should be used to affect a shot. Techniques of Lighting: Low Key Lighting, Three point lighting (Fill Light,Key light and Back Light), Hard Lights(creates harsher sharper shadow), Soft lights(create a fuzzier edge because the light is scattered juxtaposition to Hard lighting)

Tuesday 1 April 2014

Music

We used Garageband to create the music for our production it is original and was composed especially for our production in order to incorporate an action element but also retain some film noir aspects. It includes a bass guitar, snare drum and synthesizer.

Poster Text

I chose this text for my poster because it is bold and stands out and that follows the conventions of a Action and Film Noir Title.

This is a model film noir poster and it has used bold text in order to stand out and grab peoples attention   and it is stereotypical of posters in that time it is also behind an explosion suggesting of action and that entices people as they want to be excited.

This is a model action poster and it has used a bold text because it is supposed to grab people's attention  and suggests that everything is is bold and macho, looking at the context of the poster I can see that it is a very stand out poster with many past mega stars culminating in an inferno of macho men, fire and explosions

Preliminary Task

This is our preliminary task and it is a remake of the internship trailer we had a lot of fun making this project and we learnt many lessons which we learnt from and will benefit our final production.

Ideal Female Actor

                                                                               Lauren Bacall

She would be amazing as a  classic femme fatale character in our film although we have a modern twist i am sure that she would be able to add her mystery to our female character and use her girlish ways and her sexuality to manipulate weak perverted men. She herself would add the option of James falling in love throughout the film and could potentially add another sense of mystery of wether james has fallen for this black widow or not. Also she has experience in the Film Noir genre with films such as The Big Sleep under her belt.

                                                                                        Angelina Jolie

She would be amazing as a femme fatale character in our film even though she has not featured in any Film Noir she has played a          classic femme fatale character in the film The Tourist as she preys upon
Johnny Depps character in order to protect her own husband although she
uses her sexuality for gain which represents aspects of a classic femme fatale character although she has also featured in the lara croft franchise as a feisty female character who scours the earth for precious artifacts and therefore we would be able to use her in action scenes and we could portray as a much stronger female character as she has already played the part of a man eater in many films before.

                                                      Emma Stone

Emma Stone would be a very good femme fatale character in our film even though she has not featured in any Film Noir productions apart from American Gangster where she plays a classic femme fatale character and as her her character she contains all of the features attributed to a femme fatale although the colour allows for the use of red which is symbolic of a femme fatale.
